An insecure guy falls in love with a young nude model. But his past sexual abuse hinders him of loving inhibitedly. He meets a little girl in the park instead... The story isn't that linear and that's why the freely linked episodes of this film just takes you on a shaky underwater rollercoaster ride. Beautiful camera-shots, excellent editing, great music, great acting...
Two kids (Kunio Ishii, Akio Takahashi) roughly sixteen years of age meet in a hotel one afternoon to sexually engage. Shortly thereafter in a park, the boy has legally questionable contact with a girl of about six then finds himself branded as a "paedophile" and incarcerated; via hypnosis, we gradually learn that some experiences our hero had as a child of about ten might have motivated him. In the meantime, his girlfriend engages herself in quasi-pornographic photography. What fate awaits these lovebirds?
What sounds so romantic, 'first love', turns out to be traumatic and 'infernal'. Two teenagers, Nanami, a charming and self-confident country girl, and a shy boy, Shun, are on their way to a love hotel. Their first intimate encounter is, however, not the launch of an uncomplicated romance. After some embarassed forplay they realize that they have to get to know each other first. As they go back in time unraveling their personal histories, a tender 'first love' begins to blossom.

Director Hani Susumu explores the stories of his two protagonists in a highly innovative and idiosyncratic visual and narrative style that has stood the test of time and comes across as fresh and powerful. Whether a lyrical recall of childhood memories, a tasteful approach to a taboo topic, an unvoyeuristic rendition of first intimacies or the lust of the commercial sex spectator, Hani's vision is of both real and surreal mastery.

Also called "Nanami: The Inferno of First Love". Rich's second "new complete link" is still alive. Black and white, in Japanese with hardcoded English subtitles. FYI picture quality is really bad - so bad that subtitles disappear into the background a lot. Neither of the main stars are on-topic and the little girl has little screen-time, but her role is crucial so this film belongs here.

The plot has a lot more to do with the young man than it does with Nanami. He's tormented by the abuse he suffered as a child and a large part of the movie is him trying to overcome his angst with Nanami's help. This is an 'experimental' film so it's pretty "arty". Not the best film I've seen but not the worst and it had a few 'interesting' moments. This is probably not a long-term keeper for me but I'll keep it shared for awhile.
