Synopsis:
Pix:When a child is forced to become the house's adult because her father is sick and her mother is dead, there's an inversion in the natural order of things. Childhood becomes a saga. And the frustrated parenthood turns into a conviction.
Mom's the word and morbidity the spirit in The Father’s Shadow, Gabriela Amaral Almeida's second feature. Revolving around an angst-ridden girl’s voodoo-infected attempt to make her broken family whole again, the film offers a brooding vehicle that’s equal parts Victor Erice [Spirit of the Beehive], the auteur famous for tackling traumas through children’s eyes, and undead flicks like Night of the Living Dead, snippets of which are actually integrated into the narrative here.
