Renewed! [EDIT: Not so fast... ]
Renewed! [EDIT: Not so fast... ]
EDIT: This now appears to be wrong, see below.
Domain expirations and renewals take a while to be updated, so I wasn't too surprised to see noone reported any problems connecting here. But every whois I have checked had still been reporting the domain expiration date was yesterday.
But just now though, one of the whois pages I check has changed:
Domain Name: first-loves.com
Expiration Date: 2012-07-05
Creation Date: 2005-07-05
Last Update Date: 2011-07-06
http://who.is/whois/first-loves.com/
So it looks like we're safe for now, the domain has updated for another year!
I have no idea whether the domain auto-renewed or ghost got an expiration email and renewed it... we'll just have to wait and see what we find out.
But it appears the immediate danger is past!

Excellent news!
.....so it's back to business as usual! I've been sitting on a big one (pardon the expression! ) waiting for certainty before releasing. I'll get on with it then.....

I suppose auto-renewal would have been be done few days *before* the domain expired, so probably Ghost renewed it manually. Or another FLM member bought the domain after it expiredFLL wrote:I have no idea whether the domain auto-renewed or ghost got an expiration email and renewed it... we'll just have to wait and see what we find out.

Oh oh.
I got the holding page too, and now I see the whois page which prompted my original post has changed, different name servers no longer pointing to our webhost.
Expired domains are not legally able to be resold for some time after they lapse. I have heard anything between 27 and 45 days as the figure, I think it varies. So there still should time to renew.
If the registrar were just "squatting" on the domain I would have expected the nameservers to change but not the expiration date. So I am confused.
I will get on this and see what we can do....
I apologize for raising false hopes...

this is a real shitter!
Re: Renewed! [EDIT: Not so fast... ]
The domain is at least available for backorder
Name.com does offer Nabber Backorder Service for $45.
So simply to make sure if the domain does become available, FLL, one of the other admins or one of the inner circle of members could sign on for this service.
The domain couldn't be sold to someone else.
I think this is an option.
In case ghost would renew it still, only the money would have been wasted but we would not loose the domain.
By the way, who does pay the server costs and how long does this contract run.
Loosing the server would be a serious problem anyways.
Please add your opinions.
