Not (as previous posters have noted) full of cheer, however this film does feature a very cute girl about 12 years old. I've tried figuring out which name on the credits is this actress. Without success. There's no information on anyone. Most of the cast appears to be credited with this film and that's all. You can't find the usual articles, interviews, and pictures. If anyone knows her identity please enlighten us! As a secondary character her screen time is limited - but it includes some very nice scenes.

For some reason the disc has hard coded French subtitles. As with most Sharunas Bartas films though, the dialogue is sparse. He seems to prefer telling stories visually.

Yeah, it's too bad they hard coded the subs. Not only can you not turn them off but it's impossible to add new subtitles in a different language - they're illegible on top of the existing set. This is the only DVD version out there however. I checked some Russian sites thinking perhaps there was a native Russian edition without the subs. Nope. They sell the movie alright, but it's the same disc you find on Amazon with hard coded French.

On the other hand the picture quality of this release is quite good. And most of the OT parts are free of dialogue. In fact there's only a few seconds' worth of a single scene where text comes close to blocking things you might want to see (it doesn't though).

You'd think at 6-1/2 GB whoever made thar version could have put a dozen different language subs in it. I didn't download that version but 1.8 GB with English subs is small enough to be worth it. Thanks to both deadman and ghost.

Now THIS movie looks right up my jankey little alley. I love the bleak looking environments and ratty clothes and characters in the screens! Super excited for this one.

No problem, I am sure I'll enjoy the movie for its own sake. I do appreciate a focus on the little ones, but I can understand sometimes the story has to go a certain way.
