Sigh - you probably mean eMule ...
Both eMule and torrents are peer-to-peer (p2p) networks: while you're downloading, you're at once a source for others.

For eMule you have to download and install a client (http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/emul ... taller.exe).
I'm a friend of learning-by-doing, so I won't drown you in too much information. If you have problems try to find answers at the eMule site (https://www.emule-project.net/home/perl/general.cgi?l=2) or our eMule Help/FAQ section (https://www.first-loves.com/forums/v ... m.php?f=69). You can also ask here - someone can probably help you.
If everything worked right you simply click the ed2k links and they go directly into your client.

Torrents are a little simpler to handle. Again download and install a client (I'm using: http://www.oldversion.com.de/windows/ut ... uild-25110).
Here you have two possibilities: a, download a torrent and click it or open it with the menu b, click a magnet link (there is normally a magnet icon in front of it). In both cases the torrent should be added to your client.

BTW: what's wrong with my file hoster links - they should be much easier to use by a newbie?

I see no viruses on my JDownloader. If the installer is clean, you shouldn't have a problem. Use this one:

It's a little old, but the program will update itself once installed.
